Summer is the perfect time to get outdoors and be active. At the very least, it’s important to take advantage of the nice weather and spend time in the sunshine during the summer. Here at Medics USA, our primary care providers in Falls Church want to see our patients get the most out of their summer. That’s why we’d like to go over some of our favorite outdoor activities you can do this summer with your friends and family. If you happen to be traveling this summer, contact Medics USA today to schedule your travel care services to get the shots and exams you need before you head overseas.
Five Outdoor Activities To Try This Summer
Biking
Going for a bike ride is a low-impact exercise that can be fun for the whole family. Whether you’re cruising around the neighborhood or taking your bikes to Howard E Herman Stream Valley Park for the afternoon, biking is a great way to get in some exercise, enjoy a cool breeze, and explore new parts of a park or neighborhood you’ve never seen before. If you’re riding your bike with family, to make it more interactive for the kids, point out different sites and sounds you see and hear. You can discuss what the kids know about each thing, for example, “what do bees make?” or “what kind of tree did we just ride by?” Your whole family will want to make riding bikes a weekly activity.
Miniature Golf
When was the last time you played miniature golf? Whether or not you have kids, miniature golf can be a fun family outing or you can make a competitive game out of it between friends. There’s really nothing better than spending a cool, summer evening out on a miniature golf course.
Farmers Market
Start your weekend by spending Saturday morning at your local farmer’s market. In Falls Church, you can find a year-round Farmer’s Market at City Hall from 8:00 am to noon April-December, and 9:00 am to noon January through March. Shopping at Farmer’s Markets allows you to not only spend time shopping out in the open air and sunshine, but you can also find local, healthy foods that you can enjoy for the rest of the weekend.
Picnics
Speaking of food, after you attend the Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning, take your findings and make your way to a nearby park for a picnic. Bring along a blanket, sunscreen, lots of water, and maybe even a frisbee or ball to toss around with your family and friends to get your daily physical activity in.
Hiking
For the adventurous type, finding a hiking trail can be the perfect way to get your daily dose of sunshine and a great way to get a workout in that seems too fun to feel like working out. Both Howard E Herman Stream Valley Park and Cavalier Trail Park are great places to find hiking trails that are wooded and provide the perfect mix of sunshine and shade.
Whether or not you want to take some of our ideas for outdoor activities this summer, the important thing is that you find activities that you love to do so you can spend time outside. Our primary care providers in Falls Church at Medics USA hope that you’ll take advantage of the warm, summer weather, and spend as much time as possible outside. Just remember, always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and reapply every hour. Also, being in the sun means you’ll need extra water to stay hydrated.
