This time of the year is always so complex — you’re exhausted from the holidays only just ending, but you’ve also just set a New Year’s resolution to prioritize your health. With winter being the time of the year where temperatures are at their lowest in Washington DC, the last thing that might cross your mind is going outdoors and finding a fun way to be active outside!

If you’re currently struggling with getting out of the house, finding motivation during the winter season, coming across a fun form of exercise, or a little bit of each of these, you’ve come to the right place. In today’s blog post, the team at Medics USA will be going over a few activities that you can do this winter that are not only fun, but encourage a healthy lifestyle. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Ice Skating

An activity that so many love to take advantage of when temperatures are low is ice skating. Though there are indoor rinks, this particular activity is often associated with this time of year, making it the perfect time to get out and enjoy a couple of trips around the rink. Whether you go with friends, a significant other, or you simply go on your own to enjoy this time on your own, ice skating is a great activity to help you get in shape — and it’s so much fun!

Tour the City

Washington DC is easily one of the most historic cities in the United States. In fact, Washington DC is known for having the most museums in the entire country. With that being said, going around and taking a tour of the city (even if you’ve seen parts of it before) is another fun and exciting way to get out of the house and get moving! Whether you’re going to one particular spot or you’re going to spend the day hopping from one historic site to the next, consider taking the time to walk from place to place so you get just a little bit more exercise.

Walk in the Park

One of the beautiful parts of this particular time of year is the way that it looks outside. While temperatures aren’t always ideal for spending time outdoors, on the days that it is warm, it’s worth spending some time walking in the park and taking in the view. Washington DC is absolutely gorgeous throughout the year, but it’s definitely worth it for the views that you’ll get to admire. If you have kiddos or a dog, a walk in the park immediately becomes one of the best ways to stay active and get out during the winter. They’ll appreciate this time outdoors just as much as you do!

Group Workout Classes

If you simply don’t love to spend time outdoors, then you maybe want to stick to signing up for group workout classes that you can get done and then run back to your warm home. Group workout classes are a fun way to try new workouts that you maybe wouldn’t do during the warmer months of the year. Or, maybe you just want to try out a new gym or studio that you’ve passed a couple of times. Whatever it may be, these chilly months of the year are a fantastic time to sign up for group workout classes.

Hot Yoga Classes

While we’re on the topic of group workout classes, let’s talk about a workout class that can get you warmed up in no time! Hot yoga is an extremely challenging and fun type of yoga that will warm you up when you’re chilled to the bones. If you have any experience with yoga, and you haven’t yet tried a hot yoga class, this winter is the time to do so! These classes will push you, leave you drenched and sore, and they feel so good! If you don’t want anything too high in intensity or outdoors, hot yoga is a fantastic option.
