Last year the United States held its general election to decide who would serve as the 45th President. The controversial winner was Donald Trump, who ran on a Republican platform that included the promise of repealing the Affordable Care Act.

Here at Medics USA, we’re in the business of providing high quality primary and urgent care for the people of Ashburn, not getting embroiled in personal politics. However, there are cases in which political events affect the ability of some people to find and access health care for their medical needs. It is in these times that we feel it necessary to explain these changes in a way our patients can understand, as well as making it known that Medics USA has a program designed to make healthcare affordable even for those who may suddenly find themselves without insurance coverage.

Understanding The Impact Of Repealing The Affordable Care Act

If the incoming administration is successful in its quest to repeal the Affordable Care Act (commonly referred to as Obamacare), it could mean that 18 million Americans who currently enjoy insurance under the ACA would be left without coverage one year later, reports the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Successful repeal would also mean that over the course of the next 10 years, up to 32 million people would lose their insurance coverage. Keep in mind that these are only rough estimates based on slightly outdated data. The exact number of uninsured Americans could be much higher, much faster.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “the uninsured rate in Virginia has fallen by 31 percent since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted in 2010, translating into 327,000 Virginians gaining coverage. And, in addition to residents who would otherwise be uninsured, millions more Virginians with employer, Medicaid, individual market, or Medicare coverage have also benefited from new protections as a result of the law.”

If the ACA is repealed, it’s likely that you or someone you love will be affected in some way. This may cause you to feel anxious or depressed, and life without health insurance is indeed a dire situation. However, we at Medics USA want you to know that our primary care clinics will still provide a way for you to see a doctor at an affordable rate.
