Top Tips for Staying Healthy While Traveling
Drink Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated is one of the best things we can do to keep our bodies functioning well. To ensure you get enough water in, start your day with a large glass of water to guarantee you’re off to a good start. Don’t forget to pack a water bottle so you can fill it up before you head out for the day.
Prioritize Sleep
It can be hard to make sleep a priority when traveling, after all, you’re probably busy sightseeing or working depending on your reason for traveling. However, sleep is when our bodies reset, and it’s vital to keep up good sleep habits even when you’re not home. Try to create the same nighttime routine you have at home so you have an easier time falling asleep.
Eat Healthy Food
If you make eating healthy on your trip a priority, you will be able to accomplish it. Whether that means stopping at a grocery store to bring back healthy snacks that you can easily pack while you’re on the go or ordering a salad at lunch instead of a burger, eating healthy will ensure your body has the nutrients it needs to function well.
Don’t Overdo It
We know you want to fit in as much as you can on your trip, but if you never have a moment of rest, your body isn’t going to be happy. Take breaks when they’re available and listen to your body — when it needs to rest, let it.
Don’t Skip Breakfast
It is the most important meal of the day, after all. Don’t start your day without the fuel you need to keep up with your activities. Choose energy-boosting foods like oatmeal, eggs, and fruit to get you going.
Keep Up With Exercise
Depending on the type of vacation you’re taking, some trips lend themselves to more exercise than others. If you don’t have many plans that involve physical activity, try to get in some walking when you can to ensure you’re getting enough movement.
Safety Steps You Can Take to Protect Yourself and Others
Wash Your Hands Regularly
Wash your hands every chance you get, and don’t forget to bring along hand sanitizer or wipes so you have a backup option when you need it.
Make Sure Your Vaccines are Current
Check with your primary care doctor to make sure all of your vaccines are current, including the current year’s flu shot. If you’re able to get the COVID vaccine before traveling, that would be ideal.
Avoid Large Crowds
Consider all of the activities you want to do while traveling and see where you can change plans to opt for more low-key and less crowded choices.
